Museums don't have to be boring. MOTAT is anything but! The Museum of transport of technology will excite and engage you from one interactive exhibition to the next.
MOTAT is a unique museum in New Zealand showcasing the country's transportation and technology history and progression over the years. It does this with plenty of interactive exhibits for all members of the family.
The aviation hall part of the museum houses quite a large and unique collection of civilian and military aircraft in its aircraft hanger. This collection alone is worth a visit to the museum. There's a working mechanical printing press which is still operational. The press holds regular classes and demonstrations to show the printing presses of the old.
Other exhibits include a collection of trams, trains, buses, cars, fire engines and more. There is an old colonial village with replicas of early New Zealand shops and houses.
You can also take the tram from the two sites housing MOTAT. The tram ticket is complimentary with purchase of MOTAT entry tickets for a roundtrip. The ride between the two sites takes you past Western Springs Park and Auckland Zoo. There's plenty more to see at MOTAT besides these. And even more special exhibits during school holidays.
